A CALL TO PRESENCE

Misty morning… a summer sunrise… a cool breeze. The little things. What do you see when you look around you? What do you hear? Smell? What do you feel?

In our lives there seems to be at times an endless call to action drawing us forward. There is always another task, objective, chore, or job to be completed. Our to-do lists may appear to grow every time one entry is checked off, like pulling weeds. It can be difficult to maintain a sense of calm, alertness, and grace when our minds exist two steps ahead of our bodies. Those little things in life may just go overlooked; they may in turn remain as just that: little things. So, what is one to do?

Firstly, pause.

You can do it right now. Stop reading here and allow yourself just one moment to yourself. Provided you find yourself in a safe space to do so, just sit and be. Close your eyes and breath. Breath deep. When it feels your body can’t hold any more oxygen gently allow yourself to breath in a little more. Don’t force anything, just gently sit, inhale and exhale. Allow your senses to be utilized, you may be amazed at how they realign and kick back into high gear. If your mind wanders as most of ours do, that’s ok. Don’t worry, there’s no need to feel frustrated or create tension. That’s perfectly acceptable and an integral part of the process. Just calmly focus your attention on your breathing and the rest will come.

Allow yourself to just be present for a few moments.

You don’t necessarily need any particular amount of time just enough to activate a bit of a reset. The body, mind, and spirit have a miraculous ability to heal and recenter when given the opportunity. In just a few short moments you would have given yourself the chance to engage with life in a way that many of us often lose sight of. This is something to be proud of! Every time you give yourself this opportunity to find your center you have made a conscious step towards self-improvement and betterment. It may not always be easy, but with each subsequent call to presence you allow yourself you’ll find the process becomes more natural.

The responsibilities we face in life may occasionally seem daunting;

so, finding the time to schedule another activity in your routine may seem to be too much. However, I believe you may find that simply allowing yourself a moment or two each day to focus on your breathing and to be present will actually help that schedule to look at lot less intimidating. Enjoy those little things, then do what must be done when it must be done and enjoy every second of it. Your life is yours alone; through every misty morning, summer sunrise, and cool breeze. Also, through every appointment, meeting, task, or objective. Live it all fully, like you mean it… and hey remember to allow yourself to reconnect with those senses of yours.

Bless
